Cape Town Central Library Fashion Week
This past week Cape Town Central library hosted their annual
fashion week. The fashion lasted from August until the 17th of August.
I had the opportunity to be a part of this wonderful event when a friend of
mine asked me to be a model for her collection. It was the first time I have
heard of this event. The fashion week showcases how much talent we have right
here in South Africa. Entertainment ranged from singing, dancing, and poetry
reading and of course the fashion show itself, there was something for
everyone. Best of all the event was cost free so if you missed it this year make sure you catch it next year. Below I have posted some pictures of the fashion show

Trend alert: Henna tattoo
Rihanna’s latest
tattoo is a henna inspired design covering her entire hand. This inspired my
latest trend on my radar for this week is the henna hand tattoo. Inspired by
Rihanna I decided that I would give the henna took a try. The tattoo itself
took about 2 minutes to complete and I was very impressed with the lady that
did it for me. I love the floral inspired design. This is trend that can be easily achieved
and inexpensive.

Review: Maybelline Super Stay foundation
So I know that I just blogged about no make-up week, but I
have been meaning to write a review on a foundation that I recently bought. I
have been searching high and low for a decent foundation something that could
meet the standards of my previous foundation the M.A.C studio fix fluid. I just
couldn’t simply afford the M.A.C foundation this time around.
The foundation I decided to go with this time is Maybelline
Super Stay. This foundation doesn’t have a red under tone like many of the
others on the market at the moment. I have been using it for a couple of weeks
now and I am so happy with this product. It provides full coverage this is very
important for me because I have don’t have perfect skin (blemishes!) and is
long lasting. This foundation is also sweat resistant. The only negative point
I have to say about this it rubs off on your clothes a bit which can be really
annoying at times.
In the images below it might look like the foundation makes your face look a bit oily but I promise you your face doesn't feel oily at all.
The only negative thing aspect about this foundation is that it doesn't have a pump but instead you have to pour the foundation out which means it can get a bit messy. Tip for the day: If you want your foundation to last longer
than just a few hours after applying your foundation apply a compact power on
your face to set the foundation. Doing this will also minimise the amount of
make-up that rubs off on your clothing

Track of the week: The xx
This week I have fallen in love with the indie pop band The xx. The band was formed in 2009 and it consists of Jamie xx, Oliver Sim, Romy Madley Croft, Baria Qureshi. The sound of their voices transports you to a different planet. This is a band worth checking out. Their music puts you at peace and is really relaxing. Their song "Together" was used as a soundtrack on the Great Gatsby. My favourites of this band include VCR, Together and Crystallised.

Ditch the make-up for this week
I have decided to give my face a break and let it breath a
bit, so this week I have decided to try something new so I came up with no
make-up week. I know that this is going to be a challenge to me because I love
getting all dolled up and rarely leave the house with no make-up.
It is actually cruel what we put our skin through. Our skin
is very delicate and we don’t realise the chemicals we put on our skins. To be
safe and to save a bit of money (because we are all students and on a strict
budget) try some homemade facials. Below is a link for DIY homemade facials for
every skin type.
Remember girls if you are wearing make-up make a habit of
washing your make-up off before you go to bed. I recently bought this rooibos
facial wipes that cleanse your face and removes your make-up and let’s not
forget rooibos is an excellent product for your skin.

Big and Bold Brows
Let your brows have their minute in the spotlight. Thick bush brows, bleached brows and metallic brows. Brows are the latest trend. This strip of hair above your eyes shape your face and bring out your eyes. At the moment Cara Delevingne is queen of the eyebrows. Cara is rocking the bushy brows. Dior recently had their models come out on the runway with metallic brows, but if that is to over the top for you I suggest you just stick to the bushy brows.
Remember not to over tweeze or wax or thread as the hairs may never grow back and you’ll never achieve a full brow like Cara. Most importantly, choose a style that suits you best and stick with it. Beauty: The milk girl braid
So lately I have been totally obsessed with the milk girl braid.
This has been my “go to” hairstyle. Every morning when I’m in a rush I always
tend to do this braid because it’s a fun and classy look and spices up any
outfit. And let’s face it your hair can make and break your outfit. It’s so
easy to achieve anyone can do it. Most of the milk girl braid tutorials that I have
watched on YouTube show this hairstyle done with longer hair. I will upload a
video later showing how I do this hairstyle with my shoulder length hair.

Beauty: How long you should keep your make up
My make-up turned against me! A few days ago I had a horrible experience where
I got a rash on my face and neck due to using old make-up. I know many of us don’t
keep track of how old our make-up is. These are the time periods for your
different products:
Mascara 3 months
Eye pencils 2 years
Eye shadows 2 years
Lip sticks 2 years
Blushers and powders
2 years
Foundations and
concealers 18 months
Tips: Also remember to wash your make-up brushes and sponges
this will also have an impact on how long your make-up last. Wash your brushes
in hot soapy water.
Don’t pump your mascara! By pumping it you allowing air to
get into the tube and therefore your mascara will dry up quicker.

2014 has been the rise of the nails. Whether you like short
or long nails, simple or dramatic there is a trend out there that will suit
you. Your nails have become as important
as the clothes you wear. Personally my favourite nail trend is the simple crisp white nail. I love the simple and elegant look. Ladies beware your nails are also now an accessory.
